Java and Linux User Groups Allow Local Developers to Network and Learn From Each Other

Fort Lauderdale, FL, November 18, 2001 – Salient Software Solutions, Inc. signs on as a sponsor for both SOFLOJUG, the South Florida Java Users' Group, and FLUX, the Florida Linux Users' Xchange. Both user groups are based in Broward County, but serve users in Dade and Palm Beach as well.

The Java group, SOFLOJUG, was started in 1998. Each month an educational presentation is given at their meetings. It is often like getting free Java training. There is a lot of excitement in the group about the opportunities that Java offers.

SOFLOJUG offers several resources and maintains a mailing list for anyone who would like to receive Java related information. The group also hopes to soon have an online forum and job listings in place.

The Linux group, FLUX, has been operating since September of 1997. It is open to anyone interested in Linux and its meetings are well attended. It is common for a user with a Linux problem to meet another user who has already solved it.

The FLUX meetings usually bring in an interesting guest speaker. The group often provides resources to the users, such as CD-ROMS of software, email lists, and online resources.

"We believe that Java technology is improving the quality of software," said Gary Croucher, CEO of Salient. "We want to encourage users to benefit from each others' experience. This is one way that we can help South Florida to become a stronger technology center."
