Salient Software Announces Rapid Development for Management Software Developers

Upshot Software Framework Decreases Time-to-Market and Development Costs for a Wide Variety of Software and Devices

Fort Lauderdale, FL, November 28, 2001 – Salient Software Solutions, Inc. announced the early access developer availability of Upshot, their framework for the quick construction of web-based management interfaces.  Applications ranging from small, intelligent appliances to enterprise services usually need a management interface to control and configure of the product.  However, the development of this interface from scratch is often a time and resource consuming effort, and a challenge for companies with a tight time-to-market schedule.

Salient Software was founded by a seasoned group of former Sun Microsystems engineers who understood this challenge personally. They realized that a great deal of development effort is spent on creating management interfaces to products, rather than on the value-add function of the product. Salient Chairman Bob Goldfarb notes, “My partners and I had to develop the same type software time and time again throughout our careers for a variety of clients.  This is a waste of time and money. We set out to develop a technology to solve this waste.“

Rather than build a management interface from scratch, developers can use Salient’s Upshot to create a custom interface quickly.  The interface will be usable through any modern web browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Upshot is based on open standards, such as Java and XML.  It is not tied to any particular hardware or operating environment, freeing the developer from ties to specific vendors.
